About me

My passion for prehistoric animals

My passion for prehistoric animals has been with me since childhood. Back then, I spent hours poring over dinosaur books; today, I read through current paleontological publications – just so you don't have to.

Why urzeittiere.net exists

I founded this website because I felt there was a lack of reliable and understandable information about dinosaurs on the German-language internet. Far too often, outdated myths or sensationalized "facts" circulate that have little to do with the current state of research.

Not a paleontologist, but a physiotherapist with X-ray vision

I'm not a paleontologist. My main job is as a physiotherapist, so I have a good understanding of human anatomy. I've used this knowledge for years to study the skeletal structure, functional morphology, and biomechanics of dinosaurs autodidactically – how did they move, how did their joints and muscles work together? This medically trained perspective informs many of my articles and helps me to critically evaluate the portrayal of prehistoric animals in science and popular culture.

My quality promise

Every claim on this page is based on genuine fossil finds and verified scientific data. Where research is still uncertain—for example, regarding coloration or vocalizations—I clearly mark this as theory, not fact.

Many of the photos in the dinosaur profiles were taken by me – at the Dinosaur Park Münchehagen, the Natural History Museum Braunschweig, and the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt. What you see are therefore real fossils and reconstructions, not stock photos.

Where you should start

The best way to start is with the interactive dinosaur filter, which helps you find exactly the prehistoric animals that interest you.
